For the color inserts, I decided to place a frame with pop-out elements. Similar to the Marvel Masterpiece trading cards from the 1990’s. A comic book influence from my comic book design background.

An original approved design for the title-page. My aim was to present a literary war layout seen in historical books. Ultimately, a request to match the cover and slipcase.

An in-process design for the title-page. I was in-the-midst of creating a tombstone/monument headstone with a tree’s shadow to set the mood for the project (since the opening image had a soldier caught in a tree). I would have included texture for the type, but decided to drop this idea approach.
