2026 PRACTICAL ART GOALS
Last year, in 2025, I dived-back into sketching and watercolouring (I had some downtime with the arrival of, and looking after my second daughter). While enjoying the professional break of deadlines, and style guides . . . I noticed a habit of outlining my watercolors with a strong black brush stroke. I wondered, remembering the lessons from my Master’s class painting teacher–Greg Crane–instead of utilizing a black brush stroke, utilize a natural purple or softer pencil.
Meanwhile, currently on a Batman 1989 movie kick, I had the idea of setting a fun project recreating the entire Batman Topps Series 1 trading cards as paintings. Using the photographed stills as reference, I would set a 2026 Art Goal Challenge to repaint the entire 132 set! With hopes to strengthen my painting skills, remove the habit of outlining in black, environment/anatomy studies, and embrace a return to traditional techniques.
Here’s to 2026! Happy New Year!
